Christian Activities at Rockford Lutheran Jr. & Sr. High School

Students have the opportunity for personalized spiritual growth by attending weekly Chapels, doing Christian Service projects and being involved with the Spiritual Leadership Team.

Chapel

Our weekly chapel experience provides an opportunity for our students to gather for corporate worship. With distinctive Junior High and Senior High services, we seek to provide an opportunity for students to grow in their understanding of how to worship, and grow in their relationship with the God we do worship. Our chapels are led by our Jr. High and Sr. High Chapel Bands. Rockford Lutheran has been blessed with many students with outstanding musical gifts who desire to serve God by leading worship. Each chapel band has 9 students who meet twice a week before school to practice and prepare for each Friday's chapel. They also regularly lead singing at our academy schools. In recent years, more and more students have volunteered to speak at chapel, in addition to being engage in various aspects of preparing for worship.

Christian Service

All of our students are engaged in Christian Service through their religion classes. Service opportunities progress from special projects for home and family to serving their churches and school in the community and world. Our students are encouraged to participate in their congregation's mission trips and activities as well. Students plan and report on a project of their design. Many have found this to be an experience that not only allows them to put their faith into action, but also shapes their future career plans. Students and community alike benefit from this creative program.

Spiritual Leadership Team

The Lutheran High Spiritual Leadership team consists of sixteen juniors and seniors with a common mission to impact the spiritual climate of our school and the spiritual life of each student. These students have been trained through a variety of opportunities, including our Christian Service Leadership class and a week of leadership development in the Colorado wilderness. The team meets weekly to plan and pray for different upcoming activities and opportunities. They annually lead our "See You at the Pole" event in September. They have been the planners of the annual World Vision 30 Hour Famine, which to date has raised over $17,000 to aid world hunger. The team has twice assisted Carpenter's place in a shoe drive that covered the LHS football field with thousands of pairs of shoes for the homeless in the Rockford area. They have spearheaded the "Toys For Tots" drives at Christmas time. They also did a great job inaugurating Lutheran's first "Mix It Up at Lunch" event in November. Additionally, they have begun forging a relationship between Lutheran High and MOSAIC, a pan-Lutheran organization serving the needs of developmentally disabled adults in Rockford. Last year the group brought together support from the Northern Illinois District of the LCMS's urban ministries and the Rockford Area Lutheran Ministries to renovate a shelter at Liberty Park to provide a place for RALM's Park Player's program during the summer.
