Preschool
The pre-elementary program at Rockford Lutheran Academy addresses the needs of each child by correlating activities in Religion, Language Arts, Social Studies, Science, Math, Music, Drama, Spanish, Physical Education and Computers. We strive to develop the whole child in an atmosphere of Christian care; developing their confidence, creativity and the love of learning.
Classes
•Full Day Classes: 8:00 a.m. - 2:50p.m.
•Half Day Classes: 8:00 - 11:30 a.m.
•3 Day Classes: Monday, Wednesday, Friday - Half Day or Full Day
•Before Care is available from 6:30 - 7:45 a.m. and After Care is available 3:00 - 5:30 p.m.
•The pre-elementary program follows the Rockford Lutheran School calendar.
•The child must be fully toilet trained.
•Available for 3 and 4 year olds.
•Must be age appropriate by September 1st.
During the week, we will encourage your child to be physically, socially and cognitively active. They will learn by exploring, questioning, experimenting and playing.

Pre-Elementary Academics
Intellectual Development
- To extend the child's world by identifying and increasing his/her intellectual development.
- To stimulate the child's interest in learning and to help him/her gather information through stories, resource materials and a variety of educational opportunities.
- To instill in each child a desire to learn more about the world and to help him/her take responsibility for his/her own learning.
- To help the child explore concepts that will serve as building blocks for thinking, understanding and verbalizing.
- To provide opportunities for the child to learn to reason, solve problems, make decisions, express opinions and form conclusions.
- To help the child grow in language development.
- To help the child develop basic skills required for success in kindergarten.
- To expand learning using specialists in Music, Drama, Art, P.E., and Spanish.
Emotional Development
- To provide a nurturing emotional climate within the classroom that will contribute to the child's sense of belonging.
- To set an example of fairness, honesty and integrity for the child to emulate.
- To give each child recognition for his/her efforts and accomplishments.
- To provide opportunities for the child to succeed; avoiding failure by matching tasks to the child's ability.
- To encourage the child to express ideas freely without fear of rejection or ridicule.
- To help the child create a favorable self-concept.
Physical Development
- To assess the child's physical abilities and provide continuous opportunities for physical growth.
- To provide adequate space and equipment for the development of the child's motor skills.
- To encourage the child to develop correct habits of healthful living.
Spiritual Development
- To introduce the basic concepts of the Christian faith.
- To apply these concepts of Christian faith to his/her daily lives.
- To teach the child of the love that Jesus Christ has for him/her.
- To learn more about prayer and worship.
- To learn the joy of celebrating the religious holidays.
- To teach each child the basic Bible stories.
