Rockford Lutheran Alumni are more than 2,000 strong.  Since 1969 our graduates have gone on to success in more than 75 professions and 1,200 are still in the Rockford Area.  The goal of the Alumni Council is to make it easy to stay in touch with each other and to touch the future of the School.

Congratulations to Alumni Grammy-winner Kurt Elling

Premiere vocalist Kurt Elling won his first ever GRAMMY, the Best Jazz Vocal Album award for Dedicated to You: Kurt Elling Sings the Music of Coltrane and Hartman. Kurt is the son of Mr. Hank Elling former music teacher at Lutheran.  The Elling's are members of St. Paul Lutheran.

Kurt EllingElling has been named "the jazz stand-out male vocalist of our time" by the New York Times and "perhaps the most distinctive singer on the American scene" by the Sunday Times UK, and has been nominated for every album in his canon. This marks the artist's first GRAMMY win on his stellar ninth nomination overall. The vocalist also co-hosted the GRAMMY Pre-Telecast awards show with fellow nominee and actress Tia Carrere and performed a beautiful duet of "God Bless The Child" with Concord Music Group label mate and nominee Lalah Hathaway. 

Dedicated to You: Kurt Elling Sings the Music of Coltrane and Hartman was recorded live at the Allen Room at Lincoln Center. Since its release, the collection has garnered critical praise. The Washington Post wrote: "With his soaring vocal flights, his edgy lyrics and sense of being on a musical mission, he has come to embody the creative spirit in jazz" while the Chicago Tribune wrote, "some of the best ballad singing being performed today."

Kurt Elling is currently recording his forthcoming album which is slated for a fall 2010 release.

Sunday Nights on Campus

Members of the Alumni Council and Pastor Gates are hosting Sunday Nights on Campus for Rockford Lutheran undergraduate alums.  These informal Sunday night pizza suppers will link freshmen with upper class alums and help them stay in touch with the School.  For the schedule of Sunday Nights on Campus pizza dinners, visit the Alumni Events page, or call Pr. The Alumni Council provides our alumni opportunities to be connected through the Alumni Newsletters and special events such as the Annual Dinner Auction, and Homecoming.

Wear Your Crusader Support and Spirit

Purchase an Alumni t-shirt or sweatshirt. All proceeds go to the Alumni Council operational fund to print newsletters, send mailings and host events.  Both are black and feature a purple and white alumni logo with the words Rockford (Est. 1965) Crusaders.  T-shirts are $10 ($12 for XXL) and sweatshirts are $25.  These make great gifts.  General donations can be sent to the Alumni Council @ Rockford Lutheran School, 3411 North Alpine Road, Rockford, IL 61114.  All donations are appreciated.
