Vive La France-Spring Break 2010
Mrs. Hartz and six French 1-6 students traveled to France and Monaco, visiting Paris, Normandy, the Loire Valley and Nice during Spring Break 2010. Students enjoyed the train and toured Versailles, took the stairs down from the Eiffel Tower, re-enacted the D-Day landings, compared and contrasted royal chateaux and shopped and sunned along the Mediterranean. This trip allowed the students to practice their language skills and absorb the culture with three other groups of students and teachers from schools in California and a Swedish tour guide.
Academic Team
The Academic Team practices Mondays and Wednesdays after school from November through February, facing off against conference schools once a week and playing two matches at one meet. Only five players can play at one time, although substitutions can be made to allow for more participation. A match consists of twenty-four questions, with points given to the first team to answer correctly. The faster correct team then can earn more points by answering bonus questions. The questions cover a wide range of topics such as history, politics, art, literature, music, chemistry, physics, math, and sports. The Academic Team is open to any high school student who feels competent in any or all of these areas. Members develop teamwork, quick thinking, and logical reasoning skills. Besides being a good review of facts studied in school, it also looks great on a college application. It is a lot of fun!
