RLS Choir Performs at Disney: On February 13-16, 2009, approximately forty RLS choir members traveled to Orlando, Florida to sing at Downtown Disney. The choir was selected to sing at Disney after sending in audition materials, and the experience included a clinic with Disney musicians as well as time spent at each of the four theme parks.
Randy Sabien, considered one of the great names in jazz violin and a Rockford Guilford graduate, conducts a one-day workshop and concert at Rockford Lutheran Junior and Senior High School. The idea behind this workshop was to get kids interested in jazz and encourage them to be more creative with music. Students from RLS as well as area orchestra students from Alpine Academy, Concordia Lutheran, Keith, Guilford, Eisenhower, Dubuque Senior High, Galena, and home-schooled students attend. Sabien works with elementary through high school orchestra members through the day sharpening improvisation skills and teaching some of his compositions that are performed that evening. Randy currently lives in Northern Wisconsin and invites any of the students present to "stop by" for a lesson sometime. Kendall McCabe, an RLS graduate, did just that in 2009 and had a wonderful time. Sheila Felder, RLS orchestra teacher, is working on lining up workshop artists for future events.
