Illinois State Scholars

Rockford Lutheran School is pleased to announce the selection of 11 students for the prestigious award of IL State Scholar. Recognized for outstanding academic achievement are: Michael Atteberry, Katelyn Burger, Steven Entsminger, Elena Ewaldz, Lindsey Johnson, Adam Kellen, Rachel Krause, Julianna Lownsdale, Michael Severson, Tyler Walsh, and Amy Wieting.  This year 1 in 8 seniors were awarded this prestigious award. The award is given annually by the Illinois Student Assistance Commission. Illinois state scholars rank in the top 10 percent of the state's high school seniors from 711 high schools in 102 counties.

Music Students Receive All State

Congratulations to Rockford Lutheran for having 5 All-State Instrumental Musicians! This is more than any other Rockford high school. Our All-Staters include: Alberto Atzori, Flute; Elena Ewaldz, Harp; Madeleine Felder, Cello; Chrystal McKiski, Viola; and Martin Willette, French Horn. We also have one All-State Alternate, Andrew Willette, Violin. 

Purple Ink Receives First Place

The Feb, March and April editions of 2011 The Purple Ink rec'd a first place award from KEMPA(Kettle-Moraine Press Association). This is the highest place for the newspaper. Congrats to Evy Behling, editor, and to the main writers, Mike Stone and Jake Milbourn for their hard work.

Rockford Lutheran Orchestra Excel at Illinois District Contest

19 participants selected by audition from thousands of area students for the Illinois Music Educators District Music Festivals. These students will be performing at Augustana College on Saturday, November 12 for Orchestra and on Saturday, November 19 at DeKalb High School for Band. Senior Orchestra: Kavanya Gray, violin, Sean Johnson, violin, Andrew Willette, violin, Chrystal McKiski, viola, Madeleine Felder, cello, Daniel Johnson, string bass, Elena Ewaldz, harp, Alberto Atzori, flute, Martin Willette, French horn.  Senior Band: Spencer Gustafson, tenor saxophone, Martin Willette, French horn Junior Orchestra: Tyler Hurt, violin, Ashley Kerestes, violin, Paige Nordlof, violin, Micah Ohme, viola, Kelsey Page, viola, Jewlz Rotz, viola, Julian Willette, cello Junior Band: Joseph Barron, trumpet, Abigail Polizzotto, clarinet

Students Perform in Arizona at Hopi Reservation

This past summer, a group of string students from Rockford Lutheran School joined area musicians for performances in Arizona, led by RLA parent, Rachel Handlin.  The students had the neat opportunity to work and perform with string students from Flagstaff.  In combination, the student musicians performed in Flagstaff, at the Grand Canyon and on the Hopi Reservation, where they got the wonderful opportunity to perform original Hopi literature written for String Quartet.  Representing RL were Aria Beert, Madeleine Felder, Joel Gustafson, Sean Johnson, Andrew Willette and Mrs. Felder.

Evy Behling Places 5th at IHSA State Journalism Competition

Congratulations to Evy Behling for medaling at the IHSA State Journalism Competition. She placed 5th out of 21 competitors in News Writing.

Evelyn Behling Wins Writing Contest

Congratulations to Evelyn Behling on winning the 2011 Rockford Women's Club writing competition.
