Golden Apple Nominees for 2011
We would like to share the great news and congratulate our Rockford Lutheran Academy staff that have been nominated for the 2011 Golden Apple Award. Each year teachers throughout the Rockford area are nominated for this prestigious award for their outstanding and innovative teaching methods. This year the Golden Apple committee is recognizing teachers in Preschool - 5th grade. Rockford Lutheran Academy teachers nominated for the Golden Apple Award include: Jennifer Anderson, Jennifer Egen, Sheila Felder, Debra Rinaldi, Ryan Swenson, Danielle Vanek, and Julie Wiest.
Golden Apple Winner
Trey Fisk was awarded the coveted Golden Apple Award for 2009. In the fall, more than 1,000 nominations for the Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching were received for more than 400 teachers in Boone and Winnebago counties by the selection committee. Fisk was the only Rockford area private or parochial school teacher to win this year’s award. He has been a teacher for 15 years and currently coaches cross country and track at Rockford Lutheran.
Mayor's Art Award
Darcy Hill, Rockford Lutheran Academy Drama Teacher, and Sandi Uram, Rockford Lutheran Jr. & Sr. High Art Teacher, received this award honoring individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to the arts and whose contributions have resulted in a major and positive impact on the community.
International Presentation
Rockford Lutheran High School Art Teacher Sandi Uram presented a program on Cooperative Learning at the International Conference, "Modern Pedagogical Techniques" in St. Petersburg, Russia. Uram was invited by the National Art Education Association to be part of a delegation of educators to foster a professional exchange while gaining an in-depth understanding of the common interests and challenges shared by educators in Russia.

Congratulations to the following teachers for their nomination for the 2011 Golden Apple Award:
Rick Bier, Lori Dobler, Sheila Felder, Carol Gerrond, Deb Iverson, Darryl Mertz, Bethany Pitman, Marianne Volkert, Julie Whalen, Daniel Wiederkehr, and Judy Williams. Academy teachers nominated are Jennifer Egen and Paula Tesdorff.
