Golden Apple Winner
Trey Fisk was awarded the coveted Golden Apple Award for 2009. In the fall, more than 1,000 nominations for the Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching were received for more than 400 teachers in Boone and Winnebago counties by the selection committee. Fisk was the only Rockford area private or parochial school teacher to win this year’s award. He has been a teacher for 15 years and currently coaches cross country and track at Rockford Lutheran.
Coach of the Year
Head Basketball Coach Devin Smith is the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association 2009 Coach of the year.
Mayor's Art Award
Darcy Hill, Rockford Lutheran Academy Drama Teacher, and Sandi Uram, Rockford Lutheran Jr. & Sr. High Art Teacher, received this award honoring individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to the arts and whose contributions have resulted in a major and positive impact on the community.
International Presentation
Rockford Lutheran High School Art Teacher Sandi Uram presented a program on Cooperative Learning at the International Conference, "Modern Pedagogical Techniques" in St. Petersburg, Russia. Uram was invited by the National Art Education Association to be part of a delegation of educators to foster a professional exchange while gaining an in-depth understanding of the common interests and challenges shared by educators in Russia.
