Meet Trey Fisk
It’s always been clear to his students that Trey Fisk is no ordinary teacher. But this spring he became one of five distinguished Rockford area 6th-12th grade teachers to win the Golden Apple Award.
As the Rockford Register Star reported the Awards Ceremony:
“Physics and algebra teacher Trey Fisk wouldn’t let the Golden Apple Banquet audience get away without a little class participation. He quoted Newton’s law of physics: an object in motion tends to stay in motion or an object at rest stays at rest — unless acted on by an unbalanced force. ‘I think we, as teachers, are that outside force for our students,’ Fisk said.”
The Golden Apple process was rigorous. Teachers were observed in their classrooms on four separate occasions by trained Golden Apple community volunteers, and in the final stage, were interviewed by teams of Golden Apple Foundation volunteers. As home to a Golden Apple winner, Rockford Lutheran benefits in some tangible ways: a desktop computer for his classroom from Rockford Computers for Schools, computer software compliments of Entre Computer Solutions, a personal laptop from Supplycore and the Terry Ingrassia Professional Development Scholarship at Rockford College. Fisk was also inducted into the Golden Apple Teacher Academy where he joins 140 members in continuing to positively impact the education profession through mentoring and professional development.
