Weekly Chapel
Chapel is an important part of Rockford Lutheran’s culture. Once a week, every student, from preschool to high school, gathers to worship God at each campus.
At our chapel services, we join in fellowship as a Christian community, supporting and praying for each other and God’s action in the world, while expressing Christ's calling for each of us to serve and minister to one another.
At each chapel, students:
- Hear God's Word and learn about His plan of salvation for all who believe.
- Grow in their fellowship by hosting guest ministers and students from the Rockford Community and the Christian Community at large.
- Delve into the Biblical truths through worship, skits, scripture, dramatic readings, all centered around a message given by a faculty member or guest minister.
- Explore God's vocations as services are organized and led by a student team under faculty supervision. Our Jr./Sr. Campus also hosts a student praise team, who provide music in each week's services.
Chapel Leadership
Rockford Lutheran is incredibly proud of the ownership students have over their weekly worship. By and large, our chapels are student-led and student-driven. That level of autonomy is only made possible under the guidance of our Chapel Leadership. Mr. Hamrick and Mr. Wilson guide students in everything from the liturgy to song selection, all while sourcing both faculty and community speakers for each service. This makes them responsible for not only providing students with careful instruction, but also ensuring that God's Word is heard in its most honest, accurate, and worshipful form.
Mr. Roy Hamrick - Chapel Director
Mr Hamrick is responsible for the scheduling of Chapel speakers, assuring that each speaker has a message that not only resonates with the student body, but is in keeping with Scriptural teaching and Lutheran doctrine. Mr. Hamrick has an extensive background in worship planning, and has been serving in the ministry for nearly 30 years.
Mr. Chris Wilson - Worship Arts Director
Mr. Wilson serves as the worship arts coordinator and primary liturgist for upper campus chapels. A lifelong Lutheran and pastor's kid himself, Mr. Wilson grew up with a love for God and His Word. That love led him to attend Concordia University Nebraska for secondary education with emphases in history and drama and a theology minor. At RLS, he continuously tries to work toward the goal that one day, chapel can become a student-led institution while always giving Glory to God on high.
If you would like to take part in Rockford Lutheran's Chapel services either as a speaker or worship leader, please review our Speaker Guidelines.
